Water Boiler Treatment
If you're in charge of building maintenance or are considering upgrades and repairs to your building, consider your options for a water boiler treatment. Treating your water can mean preserving the life of your pipes and HVAC system and can also be legally required in many areas. Typically water boiler treatment means internal options and external options as well. You would do well to get as much information as you can regarding your options for your particular system in order to protect and preserve it and to make an informed decision on such a process. External Water Boiler Treatment Treating the water outside the boiler means reducing and removing impurities when these impurities are too high to be tolerated by the boiler system. Typically external water boiler treatment would include softening, evaporation, deaeration, or membrane contraction. By using any one of these systems or a combination of external and internal treatment, you can also tailor make the feed water for a system as well. Evaporators are a common option for water boiler treatment. Steam coils can be passed through the tanks to heat the water to boiling. A second tank can be used to produce additional heating and evaporation. Many choose evaporators over other options because dissolved solids in demineralization solutions can be too high. Softeners are also a popular external water boiler treatment option. These softeners add chemicals to the water to remove items like calcium and magnesium and in exchange they introduce sodium. Often different types of softeners are used. Lime can be introduced, such as with a lime-zeolite water boiler treatment process. This will reduce the hardness of the water. It can also remove much suspended matter in the water and balanced the alkalinity of it as well. Internal Water Boiler Treatment Options There are some reasons why an internal treatment option would be considered and some different options for internal treatment. If the boiler operates at low pressure, when large amounts of steam are used, and when high quality raw water is available then internal water boiler treatment options may be preferred. By using an internal option you can cut down on suspended solids in the water and thus prevent corrosion and damage overall. Typically softening agents are used in the water to balance its alkalinity and acidity. They will form what is called tricalcium phosphates or anti-scaling agents. They are often natural agents such as tannins or soda ash, or may be synthetic agents such as a copolymer. These are commonly used as internal water boiler treatment options. Why Consider Your Options Treating the water in your boiler will mean cutting down on corrosion which in turn will preserve the life of your system. You will have less sludge and buildup and this means less chance of undue pressure on your pipes. Using a water boiler treatment option is like an investment in your boiler and entire heating system and can keep it running smoothly for years to come.
